First the bad news: My dear friend, author David Walley (who's profiled in one of these entries for October 2003), passed away unexpectedly on August 5 after suffering a heart attack. He's probably best known for his 1972 biography of Frank Zappa, "No Commercial Potential." Ironically, that book has outlived both author and subject. David, however, wrote many other things -- key in his name at Amazon or any other online bookstore and you'll see. His most recent book, "Teenage Nervous Breakdown," is well worth reading. It's an overused expression, but David Walley truly was an original, and the world (and I) will be infinitely worse off without his refreshing honesty and integrity. On a lighter topic, there is now a Zappa Sings Zappa MySpace site, if you're interested in my musical projects. It's not the only musical project in which I'm involved, but it's very dear to my heart. You can find it at Hope to see you there!
